"Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city." Proverbs 16:32 (NIV)
Wouldn't we all rather be the patient man who doesn't have to fight? The Lord knows I would rather not fight, yet there are appointed times when a fight is inevitable. Like it, or not God puts us into battle to stand up for what's right, to defend the helpless, or to take a city.
"The lot is cast into the lap, but every decision is from the Lord."
Proverbs 16:33 (NIV)
God chooses who will go into battle with the purpose to win the fight. If God has called you to be a warrior fight for God! Count on Him for wisdom, grace and sustenance throughout the battle and emerge the victor in Christ. Even if you loose the battle, Christ will win the war, fight with all you have in Christ! Battles often strengthen our body and minds. They can also draws us closer to God. Isn't that why we are here?
First Chronicles chapter 28, is an interesting chapter you might enjoy reading. David wanted to build a temple to house the ark of the covenant for the Lord, but God said, "No." God chose David to be a warrior, not a builder. God appointed David's son, Solomon, to build the temple.
God the Father knows best. He makes no mistakes. We must follow His directions.
"So now I charge you in the sight of all Israel and of the assembly of the Lord, and in the hearing of our God: Be careful to follow all the commands of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land and pass it on as an inheritance to your descendants forever.
And you my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve Him with whole hearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek Him He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever."
1 Chronicles 28: 8 & 9 (NIV)
"David also said to Solomon his son, "Be strong and courageous and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished." 1 Chronicles 28:20 (NIV)
God puts warriors and builders together for a reason. The warrior knows from experience that regardless the situation God will ultimately fulfill His will. The builders create God's design. It takes both the warrior and the builder to fulfill God's mission.
