"See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of the world rather than on Christ." Colossians 2:8 (NIV)
"Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ."
Colossians 2:16 & 17 (NIV)
"Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch! These are all destined to parish with use because they are based on human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence." Colossians 2:21-23 (NIV)
Isn't that interesting? When Paul wrote this he was warning his Christian brothers and sisters to stay away from people who worshiped different phases of the moon. Today we still have people celebrating these things. They are FALSE doctrine-stop it.
He also warned against people who make a big fuss about what others may eat, such as pork, or drink, such as wine. In fact, there are at least three different verses in the Bible that I can think of that say that a little bit of wine is good for the stomach. There are SEVERAL verses on gluttony, which is a sin, but that is rarely addressed in the church today.
As time goes by, it is especially important to read your Bible and follow what it says. You will not be accountable for man's laws, but we are all accountable to God's laws.
Paul hit it smack on the head when he said, "with their self imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence."
In other words they were distracting others from real problems such as sexual immoralities to focus on non-sense. Christian, do not get caught up in the non sense and political correctness of this day and age; you are accountable for what God says.
See these: Psalm 104:15 (How true!) :)
Isaiah 55:1 (Wine isn't the issue- problems come when you don't know when you've had enough.)
1 Timothy 5:23 (Wine is good for both the stomach and your heart-research the facts.)
